Should I Get Silicone or Saline Breast Implants?

5/7/2019

Are you curious about undergoing a breast augmentation surgery, but don’t know exactly where to start? Your decision to get the surgery done is only the first step. There are many others that come after it. Most important of them is your decision on the type of implant you want. You can choose between saline or silicone implants.

To help you decide, we’ve put together some of the reasons why you should pick either saline or silicone breast implants.

1. How the Implants Feels

Both types of implants have a distinct feel to them once they are placed. Silicone implants have been curated to feel more like the actual natural breast, and are soft to touch. Saline implants on the other hand are usually firmer, but in cases of a rupture, the saline solution can be safely absorbed by the body.

2. Aesthetic Look of the Implants

Saline and silicone implants have their own unique look, where saline implants have a more firm and round look and silicone implants have more similarities to natural breast tissue that hangs with the proper curvature.

Saline implants are a bit overfilled, which gives them the look of fullness and firmness when you touch them. Silicone implants, however, are highly pliable and gives your breasts a more natural look.

3. Incisions Required to Be Made During Augmentation

While placing these implants into your chest area, they are placed in a different manner. Silicone implants are filled beforehand and the incisions that need to made to place it properly are large. However, saline implants only require a smaller incision when it is inserted into the chest area because it is filled only after it has been placed correctly.

4. How Long Do they Last

Most implants are designed to be very durable, however, you may need to change/replace your implants at some point in time. It has been proven that saline and silicone implants are equal in this aspect as they last as long as the other when they are implanted at the same time.

5. Implant Ruptures

Although it is not very common, rupturing is one of the risks of getting implants. WHen an implant ruptures, there’s a chance that the fluid inside will seep into your body. With silicone implants, this could potentially cause complications, however with saline implants, you don’t have to worry as it can be safely absorbed into your body.

Through this, we come to notice that both silicone and saline implants are quite different and they have their own advantages. However, before you make your final decision, it is essential that you keep an open mind while selecting and also to consult with a plastic surgeon to receive accurate information on your breast implant options as well as the benefits associated with each of them.
