How Does a Body Lift Work?
A body lift encompasses different surgeries to eliminate the excess skin and fat from the body to improve overall shape and contour. Target areas can include the abdomen, buttocks, groin, thighs, upper arms, and back. A lower body lift concentrates on the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks. It utilizes a circumferential incision in the bikini line to eliminate tissue from the abdomen, and lift and tighten the outer thighs and buttocks. In some cases, excess tissue from the lower back can be used to augment the buttock.
Good Candidates for a Body Lift
Typical candidates for body lift surgery have undergone significant weight loss. Despite their weight loss, they may still have difficulty fitting into clothing due to excess skin and fat. Surgery should be scheduled only after the patient has reached their desired weight, or after their weight has stabilized.
Risk factors are always considered when determining how and where body lift surgery is performed. In many cases, the body lift is an outpatient procedure and is performed at our AAAASF-certified facility under general anesthesia administered by a board-certified anesthesiologist. In other cases, larger operations may be performed in two or more stages or be scheduled at a local hospital.
Your Consultation
Patients need to come in for a consultation if they want to get a body lift. This allows the surgeon to explain the steps involved in the procedure and to customize it for the patient. Patients will be asked questions about their medical records, including medications they are currently taking and any allergies.
The consultation also gives patients the chance to ask questions about the procedure. If they have concerns about what it involves, how much it will cost, or how they can prepare for it, these can be addressed during the visit.
Body Lift Recovery
Following the body lift session, patients can expect discomfort, bruising, and swelling during the recovery period. Patients should get plenty of rest and follow the instructions provided by their surgeon.
Time off from work will be required in order to allow the patient to heal. Patients must avoid physically strenuous activities like heavy exercise and sports for several weeks.
